Earthworks Christchurch

Control the ground. Set up the build.

Complete earthworks for residential, rural and commercial projects—from site clearing and bulk excavation through to foundations, drainage, grading and a clean handover.

Small sites to major excavationPlant and trucking matched to access, quantities, ground conditions and the finished requirements.
Complete site capability

More than moving dirt.

Good earthworks establish the levels, drainage, bearing and access every following trade relies on. We plan the complete site sequence before the first cut.

TBT Earthworks is a local family-run Christchurch earthmoving contractor with experience across straightforward residential work, hillside excavation, foundations, subdivision roads, rural development and complex site preparation.

Earthmoving services

Built around the full site.

Each service is planned around access, services, ground conditions, engineered requirements and the construction stage that follows.

01 / SITE WORKS

Site cuts and preparation

Topsoil stripping, cut-to-fill, platform formation, site scrapes, benching and preparation for residential and commercial construction.

02 / FOUNDATIONS

Foundation earthworks

Ribraft, ring foundation, engineered foundation, house and large shed earthworks completed ready for the next trade.

03 / EXCAVATION

Bulk and detailed excavation

Large-volume cuts, confined excavation, trenching, augering and detailed work using plant suited to the real site constraints.

04 / CIVIL

Roading and subdivisions

Road formation, rights of way, car parks, drainage, subgrade improvement, aggregate placement and final grading.

05 / HILLSIDES

Typical scope

One contractor across the groundworks.

Reducing handovers between separate contractors keeps levels, access and material movements coordinated.

Site clearingVegetation, old surfaces, unsuitable material and obstructions removed.
ExcavationBulk cuts, detailed foundations, trenches, holes and shaping.
DrainageSubsoil drainage, swales, soakage and site water management.
Fill and compactionApproved material placed and compacted in controlled layers.
RetainingExcavation, construction, drainage and backfill integrated with the site.
Final gradingPlatforms, roads and finished surfaces left ready for the next stage.

Our process

Plan the finish before making the cut.

The correct sequence avoids double handling, lost levels and access problems later in the job.

01
Review the projectPlans, access, services, ground conditions and finished requirements assessed.
02
Plan plant and movementsMachinery, trucks, spoil and imported materials sequenced around the site.
03
Complete controlled earthworksCut, placement, drainage, compaction and grading managed accurately.
04
Hand over cleanlyThe site is left accessible, tidy and ready for the following contractor.
Earthworks questions

What affects the job?

Plans, quantities, disposal, imported fill and site access usually have the greatest impact on scope and cost.

What size earthworks projects do you take on?

We undertake detailed residential excavation through to larger rural, commercial, hillside and subdivision work. Plant is matched to the site and quantities.

Can you complete foundation earthworks?

Yes. We undertake Ribraft, ring, engineered, house, garage and large shed foundation excavation and preparation.

Do you supply and remove material?

Yes. Imported aggregates and fill, spoil removal and truck movements can be included within the earthworks scope.

Can you handle difficult access or hill sites?

Yes. Difficult and steep sites are a core part of our experience, subject to a site assessment and safe machinery access.

Do you offer dry hire?

No. Machinery is supplied with experienced operators so the equipment and work remain under our control.
