Shape the site around the build.
TBT Earthworks completes house cuts and building-site excavation across Christchurch and Canterbury—from straightforward residential scrapes to sloping sections requiring staged excavation, cut and fill, cartage and access planning.

A good house cut plans for everything that follows.
The building platform is only one part of the job. Machine access, truck movements, retaining requirements, service routes, drainage and the amount of material leaving or entering the property all affect the earthworks sequence.
We review the plans and existing ground before establishing the cut. Topsoil and unsuitable material are separated, bulk excavation is completed to controlled levels, and usable or imported fill is placed where required. The site can then progress into foundation preparation and surrounding works.
From existing ground to build-ready levels.
The exact work depends on the survey, engineering, geotechnical information and foundation design. TBT can manage the complete earthworks sequence.
From residential platforms to difficult terrain.
Our fleet and experience allow the excavation sequence to be matched to the property rather than forcing every job into the same approach.

A planned cut, not just excavation.
The best result comes from understanding the final site before moving material. We plan quantities, access and sequencing around the complete build.
House and site-cut FAQs.
What information do you need to price a house cut?
Send the site address, site plan, proposed and existing levels, foundation drawings, geotechnical report if available, photographs and the expected programme.
Can you estimate cut and fill quantities?
Yes. Quantities can be estimated from suitable plans or measured site information. Surveyed levels provide a stronger basis for pricing complex or sloping sites.
Can material excavated on site be reused?
Sometimes. Reuse depends on the soil, moisture, contamination risk, engineering requirements and available space. Unsuitable material must be removed or kept out of structural fill areas.
Do you complete foundation earthworks after the site cut?
Yes. We can continue into undercut, engineered fill, compaction and final grading for house, RibRaft, ring and shed foundations.
Do you handle sloping and Port Hills sites?
Yes. TBT undertakes hillside excavation across Cashmere, Huntsbury, Sumner, Lyttelton and surrounding areas, subject to plans, access and engineering requirements.
Can you include access, drainage and retaining work?
Yes. Site cuts can be coordinated with temporary access, driveways, drainage, service trenches, retaining walls and wider site preparation.
